Christmas Lights in the Park

Christmas Lights in the Park

Here is a shot of Sally Kate Winters Park in West Point at night on Christmas Eve of last year. My wife and I decided to venture out for about an hour as we waited for her sister and our brother-in-law to get to town. Night time shots can be difficult to get right, but they are fun to shoot. You can be the judge of whether or not I got this one right, but I really like it. Having multiple light sources makes for interesting things going on as the lights seem to shoot out of the lamp posts. I believe I used seven exposures for this one.

Why am I posting a Christmas photo in March? I don't always edit my photos as soon as I take them, since I tend to take lots of shots in one shoot, so digging through all of my photos takes some time, so they are not always ready to post immediately, though I will admit that I get so excited about some shots that I can't wait to edit them and post them. Other shots I don't like immediately until I edit them later and find that they turn out to be really good. I think it's good, in no matter what type of art that you pursue, to step away from your work for a little while and come back to it later with fresh eyes. You'll be surprised how often your opinion changes or what new ideas you can develop in that time away.

Just over a year ago, my wife and I purchased our first home. It's an old 100 year old home in downtown West Point. We are very proud of our home and have loved living there.

Today I had to finally go back to work after two weeks off for the holidays. It's really hard to get back to the grind when you've been off for that long, but life must go on.
