Post 1,000

Sun Oct 29, 2017

Today is the mark that I've been striving to reach since I first started this blog and I'm so excited to finally get here. Today is the 1,000th day in a row that I have posted a photo from somewhere in the state of Mississippi. October 31st will mark the last day that I will post a photo every day. Afer that I will still be posting photos but not as frequently. I have decided to give some more attention to my other types of photography as well as to my freelance web design business. It was very challenging to post a photo every day, both because of life sometimes getting in the way and also because I also want to make sure that the photos I post are worthy of being posted. I didn't just want to slap a photo up every day just for the heck of it, but rather put a photo up that I think people would genuinely enjoy.

Thanks for the support and I hope that it will continue as I strive to grow and learn in my photography and continue to deliver good images, heck maybe even great images!

By the way, this photo is from Lowndes County near the Tombigbee River where there sits a large swampy area that is usually full of water in the summer. I noticed the bright yellow plants that were growing and it made me want to pull the Jeep over and see if I couldn't get a good photo of them.

I've been digging out some old shots lately. Here is another one from the 2015 Columbus Air Show at the Columbus Air Force Base. This is the same plane that I posted a photo of two days ago only I got in much closer on this one for a cropped photo. In post production I cropped it even more and threw in some light leaks and a texture that I created to add to the feel of this photo. I've noticed that in mhy phtography (more so in my photography of people) that I have too much of a tendancy to shoot wider images, far from the subject. I am trying to constantly remind myself to get in closer and to not be afraid to leave things out of a photo and let the viewer wonder or imagine what is just out of sight. It can often create a much more intersting photo and even sometimes an abstract photo. I get caught up in photographing what I actually see that I forget that mystery is a good thing.

Shiny Ford

Mon Oct 23, 2017

I took this shot in 2015 at the Market Street Festival as we walked by the car show and saw many beautiful cars. I loved the color of this Ford and the sun really brought out the reflections in the chrome, which HDR can really bring out. I actually cropped this image to get this final composition because there were people around it. I also added a little sun flare in the top left corner just to add a little something to that part of the photo, which I thought it needed. It's fun to go back and grab old photos and use techniques you've learned since then to make it better.

Hercules

Sun Oct 22, 2017

So I went out on a limb this time and tried to figure out what type of plane this is and from what I found, I do believe this is a C-130 Hercules, a plane which has many different functions. I even named the blog post "Hercules" so if I am wrong will look kind of dumb and if I am wrong, I am sure someone will let me know. Anyway, this is a beautiful plane that I photographed at the April 2015 air show at the Columbus Air Force Base.

Purple Lake Reflection

I love these soft sunsets where the clouds help create this smooth gradient of light from one color to another and then you have some water to double up those colors with a great reflection with the tree line breaking them up. It's not everyday that I get to photograph a good sunset so I love it when I'm out shooting and a get a really good one.

Swamp Reflection

Tue Sep 26, 2017

I love finding these swamps in my travels because they are alive with so many textures and they always make for interesting photos. The reflections really look nice in this one. This swamp is located just outside of Columbus off of Officer's Lake Rd.

Shark Gun

Tue Sep 12, 2017

Here is a little something different today. I played around with some textures on this photo to really try and add to the feel of it. I took this photo at the air show that the Columbus Air Force Base put on a couple of years ago. I like how the metal texture of the gun really sticks out here.

Orange and Green

Wed Jun 7, 2017

I just got back from a famiy trip to the Smoky Mountains near Pigeon Forge and had a blast. I didn't get to plan any photo shoot while I was there, but I did get to take some nice shots while we were out and about. You can see a few of them on my instagram page here.

This is a shot from Officer's Lake once again. I took this one on the opossite side of the road from the photo I posted the other day. The sun was actually setting on this side and it gave a nice orange glow that really contrasted with the really green trees.
