Christmas! Day 1

Fri Dec 18, 2015

My wife and I recently became homeowners for the first time so we have spent the past two weeks moving, painting and unpacking so there is no Christmas tree up in our house... yet. This however is our Christmas tree up and decorated in our last home. I knew that a Christmas would look awesome in HDR and boy was I right. So now I am photographing my friends and family's trees and decorations and I will be posting them over the next week. Hope you enoy and Merry Christmas!

Princess at Sunset - Columbus

Mon Dec 14, 2015

The past two weeks have been extremely hectic, mostly because of the process of buying and moving into a new home in West Point, which is where I am originally from. In fact my dad's side of the family has pretty deep roots in Clay County. This whole year has been a hectice one for my family which has pushed back many of the statewide travel plans that I made when I launched this site, so I am well short of my goal of visiting every county by the end of the year, but I will get to them hopefully by the end of next year. Unfortunately you can't predict life.

This is a photo I took last week in front of WCBI and looking towards the Princess Theater in Columbus at sunset. The combination of the sunset, the fall colors and a beautiful downtown area make this a nice photo and the lack of business as far as there being no car or foot traffic make it a calm photo as well.

Starting Friday I will be posting a Christmas photo leading up to Christmas day, becaue I absolutely love Christmas. Maybe by the time Christmas Day gets here, my wife and I will have our own tree up in our new house.

Cemetery Sunburst

Sat Dec 12, 2015

If you have ever visited Columbus, or live in Columbus, and have never been to Friendship Cemetery, then you should really get over there and check it out. There is something about cemeteries that draws me to them to take photographs. I don't know if it's the beautiful monuments and mausoleums or just the creepiness that I get a kick out of. Either way, Friendship has both of those things and has some cool ghost stories to go along with it. There was no ghost captured in this photo.

Christmas Lights at Sunset

Wed Dec 9, 2015

I love Christmas! And I am excited to get out and shoot more Christmas scenes. In fact, next week, get ready to see more and more Christmas shots and even more so the week of Christmas. I thought this was nice scene as the sky started to get dark. The store inside the wall to the left even let me take some shots in there where there was Christmas stuff everywhere.

Feedback Please!

Tue Dec 8, 2015

Let's call today Feedback Tuesday, because today I would like your feedback. I posted two images above that are actually the same images only one has a texture and the other does not. I love playing with textures and always have, but I thought I would ask you: Which photo do you prefer? Keep in mind, even the non textured photo has been edited. Just simply look at the photos and tell me which one you like best, and even tell me why. Let's get deep. I want to know what you like/don't like about it.

Oh and light trails are cool!

Columbus Lake at Sunset

Mon Dec 7, 2015

Here's a shot I took a while back of Columbus Lake at Sunset. I will confess that this isn't technically HDR as the full dynamic range is not visible and it is only a single shot, whereas HDR is almost always made from multiple exposures. But it's my web site and I wanted to post it. Besides, 99% of the photos on this blog are HDR so I think that passes at least the minimum standard for calling your site an HDR site. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this shots.

Light Trails - Columbus

Tue Dec 1, 2015

Went out last night to get some night time shots around downtown Columbus, so I waited patiently on the corner to get some light trails at this intersection. It wasn't as busy as I hoped it would be but I think I got some decent light trails. This one was the best one out of the many that I took. I love doing light trail shots, and it was something that I always wanted to learn how to do when looking at other people's light trail photos. I'm still learning and getting better and hope to post some even better ones in the future.

Dock Reflection

Mon Nov 30, 2015

Here is yet another old photo that I was able to be happy with through post processing. I love it when that happens, because I hate to waste photos, so I always save even the ones that I don't really like at first in hopes that eventually I can make it into something nice. Some of the photos that have been reborn were as a result of new techniques that I've learned in the past few months that caused me to revisit old photos. That's one of the reasons why I'm always exploring and learning.

This shot is from the 2014 air show at the Columbus Air Force Base. I was excited to take some shots of the planes on display, and I think this was my favorite one, mainly because of the textures and reflections on the plane which really jump out in this photo. It's a great representation of what it was like to actually stand in front of it, except for it being black & white. Lots of great detail to investigate in this photo.

Abandoned House - Columbus

Sat Nov 14, 2015

This house caught my attention while out shooting one day. Maybe it was the bars on the windows, not sure, but this photo turned out exactly how I had envisioned it in my mind when I saw the house, almost like it is moving towards me as I look at it. The texture turned out nice as well.
