Wall Lamp - Hattiesburg

Sat Jun 6, 2015

Here is another one of my first HDR photos. I took this with the kit lens on my NEX-3, which is why there is a good bit of warping, but I kind of like the warp for some reason. I have always like this photo and one of my favorite parts about it are the blinds on the right and how the reflection of the building across the street plays off of it.

Abandoned Buildings - Rosedale

Wed Jun 3, 2015

Unfortunately I saw a lof of buildings like this in the delta, although they do make for good photos. The cool thing about these is that they were very colorful abandoned buildings, and I'm pretty sure none of them had a roof.

Plaza Statues - Jackson

Wed May 27, 2015

This is a statue at Jackson Place in downtown Jackson of Eudora Welty, Richard Wright and William Faulkner. This is a very nice part of downtown Jackson and thankfully, for the sake of photography, was like a ghost town when I was there. In fact that whole area of Jackson was pretty quiet on this day, which made for easier photography since I didn't have to wait for people to get out of the photo.

Henry Clay Hotel - West Point

Sat May 23, 2015

This is the historic Henry Clay Hotel in downtown West Point. I don't know much about the history of it, but I do know that it is now a retirement center and it also has restaurant and pharmacy inside.

McCoy Federal Building - Jackson

Thu May 21, 2015

I found this interesting building near the King Edward Hotel in downtown Jackson. I loved the curved edges of the building, so I, trying to be a compositional wizard, decided to get a shot from the roundabout that was in front of it to incorporate the curves from the roundabout into the photo. I'm so cool, I know. I actually assumed at first that this building was some kind of art gallery building (maybe it is) but I later realized it's part of the federal building behind it, or attached to it, I should say. From what I could see inside, it looked empty so I have no idea what the use of this part of the building is. It was fun to photograph and I would love to go inside and get some photos.

Sun-n-Sand - Jackson

Mon May 18, 2015

Here is the Sun-n-Sand Motor Hotel in downtown Jackson. Of course it makes sense to have this name in a city in the middle of the State, but I digress. I liked the vintage sign against the taller buildings in the background. This is a couple of blocks away from the capitol building. By the look of the chain link fence and the old rusty building I'm going to safely assume this place is no longer operating, but maybe it was a cool place back in the day. I love finding places like this that have the vintage signs and rustic look.

I found a little more info on the Sun-n-Sand hotel here

Jackson Place

Thu May 14, 2015

Here is a shot from my stop in Jackson. I believe the building on the left is called the Pinnacle Building. I went inside that building hoping to get an indoor HDR shot of the lobby. I walked in and saw that no one was there so I set up my tripod to take a shot when all of the sudden a security guard appeared from behind one of the columns and told me that I couldn't photograph inside the building, although he didn't really explain why. He was very nice though and we actually had a good conversation afterwards. I really want to get more indoor shots at some of the places that I go to, but sometimes people are finnacky about you photographing inside. Not really sure why, especially when I'm not photographing people. Hopefully I can get some shots like that in the future.

Confederate Monument - West Point

Sat May 9, 2015

This monument is located in downtown West Point. Growing up there I always knew it was there, but when I photographed it it was the first time I ever stopped to read the engraving on it and learn a little more about it. Funny how you can not pay much attention to something you've seen your whole life.
