Grainy Weather

Thu May 18, 2017

Here is a shot from way down in the southeastern corner of the state in Lucedale. I made a quick trip there a while back in some pretty cloudy weather. I like the color range in this shot and the contrast between the dreary gray weather and the bright green trees. I added some grain to the photo to give it a bit of a film look and I thought it fit well with the feeling of this photo.

Cloudy Courthouse

Thu Mar 30, 2017

Here's a shot from way down South Mississippi in Lucedale from my visit there about a year and a half ago. The sky was half cloudy and half sunny and the cloudy part looked very ominous so I took a couple of different angles. You can search in the Photos link above for "George" county to find the other photo I took. I love the dome with the stained glass windows in this courthouse.

Lucedale Tree

Fri Apr 8, 2016

I posted almost this exact same photo a while back, which you can see here. The difference, obviously, is that this one is in black & white, which I think is a bit more powerful and really brings out the textures and details. This is a beautiful tree, which sits in front of the town's information kiosk in the middle of downtown. It was even prettier with the lights wrapped around it on what was a very gloom day.

Gone Fishing - Pascagoula River

Sun Nov 22, 2015

Here's another photo from the Pascagoula River in George County. There was a family there fishing on this pier and one of them left this fishing pole in the corner while they went to check on one of the family members there and I thought it made a nice scene. Enjoy!

Lucedale in Black & White

Thu Oct 8, 2015

Here is another black & white photo, this time, from downtown Lucedale. I like the vintage feel of this building and I thought that it worked well in black & white with a little washed look. I have really been playing with that washed look lately and it's been fun experimenting with it in color and monochrome seeing what works and what doesn't. It's fun to explore and learn new things.

Singing River - George County

Wed Sep 30, 2015

I posted a photo of this river a little while back, which is the Pascagoula River, by the way. Someone informed me that it was also known as the Singing River because of the sound that it makes. Unfortunately on this day the water was super calm so I didn't hear any special noises, but I did read up on it to find out about the noise and this is what found at this link as well as some legends that go along with it. Take a look at the link and read about it.

Boat Ramp Road - George County

Tue Jul 28, 2015

This road is located right off hwy 26 just before the Pascagoula River. I got on this road to get to the river boat ramp to take some photos and even though this part of the road was blocked off (another road to the side lead to the river) I liked this scene becaus it looked peaceful, although the peace was ruined by all the mosquitoes, but I digress.

George County Courthouse - Lucedale

Wed Jul 22, 2015

If you haven't noticed, I like to take photos of every county courthouse that I come across (well most anyway) because I love the architecture since most have been around for decades. I thought George County's courthouse was really nice and I also liked the contrast above with the blue sky on the right and the stormy couds on the left.

Tree in Lucedale

Wed Jul 15, 2015

I really liked this tree and the fact that they had it lit up and I knew that the lights would turn out really well in HDR, plus the texture of the tree was neat too. This is the Lucedale Info Center Kiosk right in the middle of town (Yes, we did use the public restroom). We actually got some info on a miniature replica of Jerusalem that was located right outside of town. We tried to make it to the location before they closed but were unsuccessful. Next time I'm in Lucedale I really want to check it out and photograph it.
