Bottle Wall

Wed May 17, 2017

I found this little side street right off of the square in downtown Grenada. While walking around taking photos, I noticed this neat wall that, upon further inspection, I found was made from bottles. It was a nice little piece of art to give this street more character, which I think it had plenty of.

I don't often do HDR photos that have bokeh in them, because almost all of my photos are more landscape or cityscape, but sometimes HDR can work well in more portrait style photos with depth of field.

Square

I love finding abandoned buildings. This is one that's not in terrible shape located in downtown Grenada. Something about it really caught my eye. Maybe the simplicity of it. I'm not really sure, but I hope you enjoy it as well.

Blue Building

Enjoy today's photo from Grenada. This little street was on a hill and the buildings kind of stepped up with it and all the buildings were fairly narrow older buildings that gave this street a lot of charm. I like the red door on the building on the right and the way the gold lettering above really pops out in HDR.

Across the Street

This shot is fairly similar to yesterday's photo, however this one was taken in Grenada on their square. Grenada's square is a bit smaller than Kosciusko's but still has that great small town charm.

Small Town Buildings

Here is a typical small town scene from Grenada, but what I love so much about Small Town America. These old downtowns and downtown squares hold that vintage small town feel that is warm and inviting and makes any of them feel like home. I'm a proud small town product who still lives in his little small town and I love every minute of it.

Lightning Bolt

Sometimes you find photo opps in the most random places. I spotted this little door on a side street in downtown Grenada and the light coming through opening into this entryway made what looked to me like a lightning bolt. Because of the brightness of it I actually took a 5 exposure bracket for, which I rarely, if ever do, hoping to capture a greater range of light and nto have all of the light blown out. I was pretty successful, except for where the light hit the door, which was really blown out in person, but I really like how it turned out. The light kind of shifts the balance, since everything else in the photo is dead center.

Dry Lake

Fri Feb 3, 2017

Two days in a row of monochrome. I hope you enjoy black and white photos as much as I do. Often it is hard to decide between black and white and color, especially with how much control you can have over a photo in post-processing these days. Basically, I chose black and white here because I had a color version of this same area that I really liked. Now I really like both of them. This is another photo from the dry Grenada Lake bottom.

Long Shadows

Thu Feb 2, 2017

I ventured over to downtown Grenada last weekend and explored the area a bit. In true Mississippi vein, Grenada had a downtown square. I took this in the morning so the sun was still pretty low and casting some nice long shadows and it was peaking around the corner of the white building so I turned the f-stop down to 22 to get a little sunburst. I played with this photo a lot in color but ultimately decided it workd best as a black and white. Who knows if that was the best decision, but it seemed right to me.

Lake Bed Puddle

Here is a very simple shot of some standing water left over from the dried lake bed at Grenada Lake. I took this from the old road that lies on the lake bed. I liked the blue reflection in the water that breaks apart the dull colors of the ground. There is some nice texture in the water as well.

Lake Sunrise

Here is another shot from my trip to Grenada. I'll probably be posting photos from that trip all of this week, so be prepared! I took this after walking out on to the dry(ish) lake bed and getting as close to actual water as I could before my shoes started sinking into the mud. It was fun to be able to walk around down there and go under the highway bridge and explore the lake bed.
