Curves

I really though this building was cool when I was walking around the downtown area. It sits in front of the Dr. A.H. McCoy federal building. I'm not sure what this little buildingi s used for as it was empty during my visit there, but I loved the curves of the building which sits in front of a round about, so there were curves going everywhere, which gave me the really clever idea for the name of this blog post.

Had a great time at the Prairie Arts Festival yesterday, and met a few Mississippi artists, two of which are photographers. Always great to meet local photographers and see their work and talk shop a little bit.

Building on the Corner

I took this photo in downtown Jackson a couple of years ago on a dreary Saturday. Thankfully, is often not the case, there were not power lines in every direction. My edit on this kind of throws back to my older style of editing HDR photos with darker shadows and glowing highlights almost as if there are small spotlights shining on the building. My favorit part of this, which is really subtle, is the gentleman sitting on the bench in front. In hindsight I wish I would have photographed him close up.

Black & White Corner

This building is just down the street from the building in yesterday's photo. This building appears to be a lot newer than that one with a lot more straight edges in a bit of a simpler style. A bit of a contrast to the roundabout that sits right in front of him. I had fud wandering around the area and seeing what I could find. Looking forward to go back again when there is more sunshine.

Building on the Corner

While wondering around on foot ind downtown Jackson one dreary Saturday I came into this part of the city next to the Capitol building and reallly loved the feel of it. Add to that, it was almost like walking around in a ghost town because I rarely saw other people. It was an eerie feeling but I think that added a little mystery to the photos. Maybe I should've named this photo "Where Are All the People At?".

Three Doors

I ran across this old church in downtown Jackson one day when I was out shooting. I remembered this church because I went to a wedding there once quite a few years ago and I also remembered how beautiful it was on the inside. However, it was no longer in use (at the time I took this photo) and the doors were locked so I wasn't able to go inside. I bet I could've gotten a hauntingly beautiful photo of the inside if I were able to get in. Alas, it was not to be. I still think this photo is also sort of hauntingly beautiful with the overcast sky creating very soft lighting.

Here is a shot I took while exploring the area around the Governor's Mansion in downtown Jackson. It was a drizzly Saturday and there was almost no one out and about so it made for some nice shots free of people and traffic.

Capitol Dome

The last time I was in Jackson they were doing extensive work on the dome of the State Capitol Building so it was completely surrounded by scaffolding, which although it looked cool, it hid the real dome. So I was glad on my most recent visit that they were done with construction and I was able to get the whole thing. It was very cloudy and drizzly on this day so my stay here was very brief.

Capitol Lights

I got up really early this morning because I wanted to head to Canton to see their Christmas light display, which I heard were really great. Unfortunately they do not have them on early in the morning, so I was very very dissappointed. However, I did get a few pictures there before heading to downtown Jackson to see what was there. It was very rainy in Jackson this morning so I didn't get to explore very much at all, but I did capture this light display right in the middle of downtown about a block from the Capitol building. I love to see trees lit up like this, making the trees look like they are made of lights.

Vroom!

I took this photo at the corner in front of the Governor's Mansion in downtown Jackson. I really liked these buildings and the greenery that surrounded them. Once again, this block was very quiet on this particular day and this was one of the few cars that I saw. It looks like it is floating above the pavement.
