Vintage Tupelo

Wed Nov 30, 2016

Here is a shot I took in downtown Tupelo last week. No, this photo wasn't taken in the 1950's. I've been messing around the the Google Nik Collection, which features a great tool called Analog Efex Pro. This took allows you to create some vintage photos using different vintage camera styles which you can cater to your own styles and needs. I used a black and white filter with some added scratches and a nice worn frame to give an old timey look. I love doing this to photos and has been a style that I have loved every since I started using photoshop about 15 years ago. It's fun to create and play with photography to manipulate it into whatever you want it to be. That is part of what creating art is, making somehting that is interesting to look at.

Also, I got a brand new iMac 27" with the 5k retina screen so no more laptop editing from home. I love it so far and plan to use it for both photo and video editing as well as creating some videos that show my photo editing workflow that I use to create my HDR photos.

Boy Elvis

Sat Apr 30, 2016

This photo is from Elvis Presley's birthplace in Tupelo about 30 feet from the house Elvis was born in. If you ever visit this place, you will see cars from all over the country and possibly mean people from other countries as fans come from all over the world to see it and also Graceland in Memphis.

Lee County Courthouse

Sat Apr 9, 2016

I travelled through Tupelo on my way back from Clarksdale a few months ago and took a few photos downtown. This is the Lee County Courthouse in the middle of a square in downtown. I played with the colors a good bit, really bringing out the greens and toning back all the other colors, except for a bit of yellow. I always like to photograph county courthouses, as most were built many years ago and are usually some of the more interesting and intricate architecture you might see in each town.

Veterans Park - Tupelo

Mon Oct 26, 2015

Here's a shot from Veteran's park in Tupelo. I really didn't like this shot much originally but as I worked on it I started to like it more and more, especially with the nice colors coming from the top right of the photo, creating a prism from the sunshine beaming down on what was a really beautiful but windy day, which makes it tough to get good shots when you are shooting for 3 exposures.

Elvis As a Boy - Tupelo

Tue Sep 22, 2015

This is a photo that I took last year while visiting the birthplace of Elvis Presley and is probably one of the must visit places in Mississippi. People actually come from all over the country and the world to visit it, especially since it's so close to Memphis and Graceland. I thought the statue looked great in the shadow of the trees surrounding it with the sun coming through from the back of the statue creating some nice shadows on the ground. I gave it a vintage feel to add a little something to it.

Elvis Presley Childhood Church

Thu Mar 19, 2015

Shot this photo the same day that I shot the photo of the Elvis Boyhood Statue. I originally wasn't real happy with this shot, but it's one that I kept playing around with until I finally became happy with it. This is the result. I am hoping to get back up to Tupelo real soon because there is so much more to shoot there. Doing some travelling this weekend so if you have any suggestions feel free to hit me up. I will most likely explore Chickasaw County and see what happens from there.

Little Elvis Presley

Tue Feb 17, 2015

I traveled with my wife up to Arkansas to visit some friends this weekend, and although I wasn't able to take many photos along the way while still in Mississippi, I did manage to make a stop at Elvis Presley's birthplace and snap a few photos. I really like how this photo turned out, mainly because of the detail in the statue. It looks like it's coming out of the photo. I love HDR photography!

The Photos page continues to grow, so please be patient as I add more photos everyday. Yes, EVERYday! I am making plans on places to visit when the scenery gets better along with the warmer weather in the spring, until then I will be taking photos as I'm able, wherever I happen to be. Sometimes it's hard to find good photos when everything is dead, but I will still try. I hope you are finding this site interesting as it continues to grow. I really enjoy sharing my photos and allowing people to see more of this great state.
