A Church Without Wires

Thu Nov 5, 2015

This is the beautiful St. Paul's Episcopal Church in downtown Columbus. It is such a nice building and the grounds around it are so well kept and it just adds so much to the already beautiful downtown area. As I was going back through old photos I found this one, but there was one thing about it that I hated. THERE WERE POWERLINES EVERYWHERE!!! Though I know that power lines are a needed thing, they can sometimes just get in the way of an otherwise good scene. I run across them all the time and they are very frustrating to deal with as a photographer. But you might be saying "But there aren't any power lines in the photo" with a perplexed look on your face which is slightly tilted to one side in wonder.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret, I often remove power lines from my photos because they are such an eyesore and because I am a bit of a ninja when it comes to using Photoshop as I've been using it for almost 20 years (about 17 to be a bit more precise). However, with this photo I think I removed more wires than I ever have before, but in the end it was worth it as it uncovered a MUCH better scene. In fact I even want to show you the before photo so you can appreciate the work I put into it.

Path Into the Horizon - Columbus

Tue Oct 27, 2015

I thought this was a cool scene while headed home from work one day, so I stopped to get a photo. I loved the way the cart path (this was on a golf course) disappeared into the horizon and the beutiful clouds looked like they were rushing towards me. It's hard, but you have to continually search for beauty around you, and always keep your camera with you, so that you can capture it. And don't forget to soak it all in.

River Walk at Night - Columbus

Wed Oct 21, 2015

This is actually a pretty old photo (meaning about a year old) that I took in my early HDR days and I believe it was my first successful night shot, or maybe my first attempt, I can't quite remember, but I do remember being very proud of it and now I want to share it with you.

You've Got Mail - Columbus

Sat Oct 17, 2015

I had trouble thinking of a title for this blog post so I decided to go with the AOL throwback. I know you can hear the voice saying the phrase in your head. I ride by this scene all the time going back and forth to work/home. There was once a house here not too long ago and when they tore it downt they left the mailbox and I thought it was interesting to see and when the field turned yellow when fall came I thought it would make a nice picture. Good thing I took it when I did because they recently cut the field and now it's empty. Timing.

The Himalaya - Columbus

Wed Oct 14, 2015

This is a shot of the Himalay ride with the Yoyo ride in the background. There was no sign of the Yeti anywhere though. It's fun to take photos at fairs like this because of all the lights and the action. You can really capture some photos with motion, which I think are nice.

Some exenuating circumstances have prevented me from travelling around much, other than Birmingham, but hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get outside of the Golden Triangle and expand my gallery to some places I haven't been able to get to yet.

Also, I hope to have some good news in the next couple of days to share with you that I hope you will take advantage of.

Color Explosion - Columbus

Mon Oct 5, 2015

Caught this gorgeous sunset at the Columbus Lock & Dam and played with the colors a bit to create even more vibrancy. Like I've said before, the finished photo is what I see or want to see, a sort of enhanced reality, if you will. So, no the colors were likely not quite this explosive to most people who viewed it, but in my mind's eye it was and that's what matters to me. Enjoy!

Foggy Evening - Columbus

Fri Oct 2, 2015

I love taking photos whne it's foggy out, especially at night. It creates so much mystery and mystique in the photo that really appeals to me. This fog made for a very soft photo and I love how light plays off of fog as well.

Statue of Liberty - Columbus

Sun Sep 27, 2015

No I didn't photoshop the NYC Statue of Liberty into this photo. This mini Statue of Liberty sits in the middle of Main Street in downtown Columbus. I always wanted to get a shot of it and this time of day was the perfect time to get the statue along with some nice light trails. I hope to photograph it some more at some point.

Glowing Forest - Plymouth Bluff

Thu Sep 24, 2015

The day I took this photo I went exploring at the Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center near Columbus. It was a beautiful and cool day in December. This was on the back side of the hiking path that loops all the way around and the light coming through the trees was really nice. In fact, this was one of the very few good photos I got that day, which was dissappointing since I took about 100 photos.

Mausoleum - Columbus

Wed Sep 9, 2015

I think this is a really cool mausoleum at friendship cemetery and everytime I go out there I take photos of it. I think I actually posted a photo of it in the snow a while back, so go check that out. I thought the black and white was fitting for a cemtery shot.
