Two Years!

Wed Feb 8, 2017

Today marks two years of Mississippi in HDR. That means for the last 728 days I have successfully posted a photo. It's been fun to learn and explore new phtography techniques and editing styles and to grow as a photographer. I feel like I still have a long way to go but I have come far since I began this project, and in the process have branched out into other types of photography.

To help celebrate I am offereing a coupon code for 25% off of prints for my entire gallery. Simply go here or click on the above photo to see the full gallery and use the code TWOYEARS to get the discount on any or all prints. This will last for one week!

The above photo is one of the first successful HDR photographs that I captured with my tiny little Sony NEX-3 at the Columbus Marina. This was taken at sunset and the colors were great and the water was offering some nice reflections.

Christmas Table

Sun Dec 18, 2016

This is my mom's Christmas table. For as far back as I can remember we gathered around the table at my parents house on Christmas Eve to celebrate together and at the end of the night exchange gifts. Christmas time has always been very special to me and my family.

Grandmommy's Tree

Thu Dec 15, 2016

This is my grandmother's tree, but we call our grandmother, Grandmommy. Grandmommy passed away a couple of weeks ago at the age of 90 and the evening after her funeral I snapped a photo of her little tree that she puts up every year and I thought it was fitting for the first photo of the 10 days of Christmas photos should be hers as a tiny little tribute to her. It will definitely be tough having our first Christmas without her, but I know I'll get to see her again someday. Merry Christmas, Grandmommy!

I love when the fair comes to town so that I can play around with shooting lights at nighttime. All kinds of colorful, moving lights to capture. It's interesting to see the results of the movment contrasting against still objects, creating a bit of abstractness amidst the recognizable things.

This is a photo of Fant Hall on the beautiful MUW campus. The W is a great place to shoot and a place that I often went to do that when I lived in Columbus.

Red & White Trails

Thu Nov 17, 2016

I used to want to take light trail photos so bad when I first got into photography but in my ignorance I didn't really know where to start or when exactly to take the shot. Now that I have more camera knowledge and experience I can get those types of shots. Here is one from a bridge going over Highway 82 just outside of Columbus right after sunset.

Sunset Silo

Tue Nov 15, 2016

Here is something you don't typically see in Mississippi. A silo. Just kidding, but I thought this particular silo was in an interesting place and likely not being used anymore. And let's face it... against such a beautiful sunset, anything would look good in this photo. Sometimes you just need a subject and it matters little what it is.

Into the Fire

Fri Nov 11, 2016

The sky was on fire the other night when I took this photo. I have tried in the past to get light trails photos from this bridge that goes over Hwy 82 near Columbus, but never could quite figure it out. Now that I sort of know what I'm doing I went back to try again and got some pretty good shots. Traffic was fairly heavy since it was around 5:00pm when I took this which made it easier to get some good trails. It is fun to play with long exposures to create a sort of abstract reality, wether it's light trails or moving clouds, it gives the photo a surreallness that is fun to look at.
