Landscape of Many Colors

Thu Jan 14, 2016

This is photo is from my really early times learning HDR photography, so in other words, I had no idea what I was doing as far as correct camera settings. I just saw a nice sunset so I shot it. The only thing I did know was that I was using autobracketing. After originally looking at the photo I didn't think it was very good, because it had too much noise and it was too dark at the bottom of the photo. Lo and behold a year and a half after taking this photo I go back and re-edit it using editing skills that I have learned over that time and it actually turned into a really nice photo. There is still a little noise because the ISO was too high for shooting HDR, but I think it adds to it a little bit and even with the noise this is a very smooth photo as far as color transition from the green at the bottom to the vibrant blue at the top. I was able to bring out the colors and now I love this photo. All of my first successful HDR photos are very special to me because I wanted so badly to create something beautiful so that I could share what I was seeing with others.

Dreamy Path

Wed Dec 30, 2015

Here's another photo from Plymouth Bluff standing in roughly the same spot I stood in the photo I posted two days ago, only looking in a different direction. Again, I thought this photo had potential but I wanted to adjust the colors to get the look I wanted, so I went for a more autumn feel and a surreal landscape. I really like this photo and how the path leaves a lot of mystery as to where it leads to. Who knows where it will take you.

Yellow Forest

Mon Dec 28, 2015

This photo is from a hike at Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center near Columbus and sitting right on the Tombigbee River. It's a pretty short trail as far as hiking trails go, but full of nice scenery. I like how this bridge looked from the view I had of it, but I thought the foliage was too green and I wanted to give it a sort of dreamy look, so I turned all of the greens into yellows (thank you LightRoom) and voila, it turned itn

Main Street Light Trails

Sat Dec 26, 2015

Here is a light trail shot I took in downtown Columbus. Actually, I have to confess I made this into a light trail long exposure shots with photoshop. There were originally no light trails in this photo, but I thought it would make a cool light trail shot, so I used my ninja like photoshop skills and created it myself. Much too long of an explanation to tell you in this blog post, but maybe at a later date I can explain a little more how I created it. I love photography, especially digital, because of the manipulation possibilities. Sometimes you just create art out of an ordinary shot. So much fun. I am learning more about long exposure photography and capturing it in camera, but as for now this will suffice.

Tall Tree

Wed Dec 23, 2015

Here is the wide shot from the same place I shot yesterday's photo. This is a really tall tree filled with tons of ornaments that they have collected over the years. I actually took a couple of close ups of the tree that show some of the ornaments. It's a beautiful tree in a beautiful house. Perfect for Christmas.

Santa on the Stairs

Tue Dec 22, 2015

Today is Day 4 of Christmas photos and I went with something a little different for this one. As I was shooting photos of my friend's tree I kept noticing the Santa that was sitting next to the window on the stairs, so I thought it would make a good photo and this is the result. I decided to go with a vintage look on the advice of my wife (she's so smart) and I was really happy with how it turned out. 3 more days til Christmas!!!!!

Downtown Park Lights

Mon Dec 21, 2015

I like this little corner park in downtown Columbus which is right next to Holly Hocks where I posted a photo froma couple of days ago. There are always interesting colors here because of the color of the lights bouncing off the walls and and ground. Add in some Christmas lights and you get some nice reflective light off of the brick and the magnolias with the sun setting in the background. I love Christmas lights and what they add to a scene. Christmas is getting ever closer.

My wife and I recently became homeowners for the first time so we have spent the past two weeks moving, painting and unpacking so there is no Christmas tree up in our house... yet. So now I am photographing my friends and family's trees and decorations and I will be posting them over the next week. Hope you enoy and Merry Christmas!

Princess at Sunset - Columbus

Mon Dec 14, 2015

The past two weeks have been extremely hectic, mostly because of the process of buying and moving into a new home in West Point, which is where I am originally from. In fact my dad's side of the family has pretty deep roots in Clay County. This whole year has been a hectice one for my family which has pushed back many of the statewide travel plans that I made when I launched this site, so I am well short of my goal of visiting every county by the end of the year, but I will get to them hopefully by the end of next year. Unfortunately you can't predict life.

This is a photo I took last week in front of WCBI and looking towards the Princess Theater in Columbus at sunset. The combination of the sunset, the fall colors and a beautiful downtown area make this a nice photo and the lack of business as far as there being no car or foot traffic make it a calm photo as well.

Starting Friday I will be posting a Christmas photo leading up to Christmas day, becaue I absolutely love Christmas. Maybe by the time Christmas Day gets here, my wife and I will have our own tree up in our new house.
