High Grass Sunrise

Thu Sep 21, 2017

This is a pretty simple image but the colors are outstanding and the contrast between the grass and the sky really makes the colors pop out even more. Sometimes it is the simplest photos that can have the greatest impact. I love it when I post photos of town landmarks that take people back to those places as a kid and brings out many fond memories, but sometimes scenes like this can bring about just as many memories but not so specific to the actual place but rather to a place like it that they went to or explored as a child or with their own children. I love hearing those stories from people and I hope to continue to spark those precious memories.

Down River

Tue Sep 19, 2017

I took this from a fishing dock on the Tombigbee River right next to the Lock & Dam. This was at the end of a long road trip my wife and I took that day through several counties. The best part is being able to catch a great sunset at the end of it.

Elkin in Black & White

Mon Sep 18, 2017

I love seeing old theaters still in use in the small towns that I visit. It helps keep the character of the town intact along with the other buildings around it. There is a special charm to downtown streets when they are kept alive with businesses and each town is different from the other, which makes each one special. I hope the small town spirit can continue to be revived in the future.

Down the Road

Tue Aug 1, 2017

Waking up really early to capture a sunset can be really hard to do for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that it is early in the morning. The second reason is that you never really know what you are going to get, it's kind of a gamble. The reward can be great though when you get someting interesting like a really foggy morning. Foggy shots are always interesting to me because they had a bit of mysteriousness to a composition as well as a softer feel. This is a quiet road off of the highway in Monroe County that stopped and took some photos of during the fog.

Chancery Building

Mon Jul 3, 2017

Here is the Monroe County Chancery Building in downtown Aberdeen, a nice piece of old architecture in this old town that is still being put to use. The faces that line the top of these columns give this building extra character.

First Methodist

Fri Jun 30, 2017

I took this photo a couple of years ago. This is the First Methodist Church in downtown Aberdeen. I found this once again while going back through my old photos and thought it would look nice as a black and white photo. Turned out I was right. I like the dramatic look of it, which black and white tends to add to a photo. I added a big vignette as well just to give it some more drama and the architecture of the building put the finishing touch on it (which I am not responsible for).

Two Bridges

Sun Jun 25, 2017

This is a train bridge going over the Tombigbee River just downstream from the Lock & Dam in Aberdeen. If you look closely just under the left side of the bridge you will see another smaller bridge, which is the old river bridge (next time I will see if I can access it, fingers crossed). This was during a gorgeous sunset and I pulled just off the road to capture this shot as opposed to walking through the tall grass and probably getting ticks on me (who in Mississippi hasn't had plenty of those before?).

Moving Train

Thu Jun 22, 2017

This bridge crossed the Tombigbee River just outside of Amory. I got lucky when I stopped here, because I only intended to photograph the bridge itself, but then I heard the train coming so I quickly adjusted my settings so that I could do a longer exposure to capture the movment of the train. It turned out that the overcast sky provided better (less) lighting for me so that I can bump the shutter time down in order to get the longer exposure needed. Sometimes things work out just the way you want them to.

Tombigbee Sunset

Mon Jun 19, 2017

I was able to capture this awesome sunset at the end of a fun road trip that my wife and I took with the top and doors off of the jeep. The clouds were great all day and I knew that meant there would be a good sunset, so we made our way to the Tombigbee River in Aberdeen to shoot it and it did not dissappoint. I found this little spot off the road that allowed me to get a higher perspective pretty close to the bridge and get a greater glimpse of the colors that were exploding behind the bridge. We found this little spot after I decided that I had taken the last photo for the day.
