Vintage Welcome

Mon Jul 10, 2017

This is the Macon Welcome Center in Noxubee County. I love that they restored an old service station to use as the welcome center. I think it adds a lot of character to a town when they choose to go this route instead of building a brand new building. I love small towns that still have a vintage feel. Because of that, I went with a vintage edit for this photo that I though fit well with the subject matter. I've been working on a film look lately and this is my latest Lightroom preset that I've created and it comes in handy for both landscapes and portrait photos.

This is the Morgan Hill Overlook at the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge. This was during the mid-fall, so the grass was a very nice orange color that contrasted really well with the sky. I guess this would be an example of a simple composition with not much going on but still nice to look at.

Orange Trees

Fri Jul 7, 2017

I took this photo just after sunrise at the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge. I go out there a good bit to photograph the area. This was my first trip during a sunrise and got some nice photos while I was there. I really liked the glow that the trees had as the sun shone on them from just above the horizon.

Tree in the Water

Wed Oct 26, 2016

I took this  photo as the sun had moved over the tree line (behind me) and the opposite horizon was starting to really glow. This tree was too far to really capture with my wide angle lens so I put my 50mm on to get a closer, more cropped, shot. I really like the blurry reflection in the water here.

Here is another shot from my morning visit to the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge a couple of weekends ago. This is just a single image edited in LightRoom as opposed to my usual 3 shot HDR image. I thought a single image turned out a much better shot this time.

Refuge Boardwalk

Here is another shot from the Noxubee Refuge. This one was after the sun had risen enough to start showing the colors in the surroundings. The trees are still green, but are beginning to show the color change of fall.

Sunrise Silhouettes

Mon Oct 10, 2016

Here is a shot from my sunrise trip to the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge. There were no clouds but the colors were great before the sun rose over the horizon. This is a single image as opposed to the usual 3 shot bracketed images that I take to create HDR photos. Sometimes you only need one.

Morning Tree

Tue Oct 4, 2016

I woke up early this past Saturday and headed out to the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge to capture the sunrise. Unfortunately (as has been the case lately) the sky was crystal clear. Not great settings for a sunrise (or sunset for that matter) but I was able to capture some nice shots nonetheless. I went out on one of the boardwalks at the Refuge and saw this tree all by itself with its leaves starting to slightly turn orange yellow and it looked great against the backdrop of Bluff Lake. The Refuge is a beautiful place. I even met a fellow photographer while I was there!

Fall at Bluff Lake

Tue Sep 27, 2016

The Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful place on the border of Oktibbeha and Noxubee Counties, and it's a pretty short drive from my office, so I will go out there and shoot some photos at lunch from time to time. This is a photo from one of those trips at the end of a 1/4 mile trail that leads to this spot. I shot this last year during fall and it makes me long for cooler weather and fall colors.

Refuge Lake Shore

Sun Sep 11, 2016

Sorry, no train track photo today. This is just some old photo from one of the Lakes out at the Refuge. This place is so great and is fun to explore any time of the year. This photo was taken in late fall last year.
