McComb Train Station

Fri Sep 9, 2016

I got to walk the tracks around this area a bit and explore when I was in McComb. It's kind of nice when I am able to just take my time and explore new places and find interesting things. It was great to be able to stand on the tracks and get the train's perspective. This would've been a good time to have people standing outside, waiting on the train.

Topisaw General Store

Here is a cool store in downtown McComb that kind of takes you back to yesteryear (before I was born!). I love that so many Mississippi downtown areas are still in pretty good shape and show signs of life.

McComb Tracks

Thu Feb 18, 2016

Here is a shot from my morning spent in McComb late last year. I spend a good bit of time walking the railroad tracks near downtown and taking some shots. This shot was taken standing under the highway bridge that runs over the tracks.

Happy Birthday to MSHDR + A Discount

Mon Feb 8, 2016

Today is a big milestone! It marks one year of mississippiinhdr.com. When I started this project I don't think I really knew what a challenge it would be to post a photo every single day, no days off. I also didn't realize how much fun it would be and how much I would learn. When I look at my progress over the past year, and even more so over the past two years (when I actually dove into HDR) I am overwhelmed at how much I have learned, both through trial and error and throught the inspiration of other people's photography. I have had a blast and I look forward every single day to sharing a new photo with you (some better than others). I don't feel like every photo is a masterpiece, and I love some photos much more than others and have my own favorites, but it's fun and interesting, as well as often surprising, to see how people respond to each photo. If you've been with me from day one, then thank you for sticking with me and continuing to encourage me (you haven't gone unnoticed). If you are new to my photography, then I hope you will stick around as I continue to try to learn and improve day by day. 1 year down doesn't mean that the photos will stop each day, rather I hope that 1 year from now I will posting my 730th photo... in a row.

To celebrate 1 year of my photos I am making my entire Mississippi in HDR gallery prints available for 25% off, but only for the next two days. Use the code ONEYEAR at checkout for your discount, but do it soon!

Abandoned Tracks - McComb

Thu Dec 17, 2015

I spent a good bit of time wandering these tracks the morning I took this photo and I shot of good bit of photos with my 50mm lens, using a wide open aperture at 1.8. I shoot 95% of my photos with a wide angle lens, but I love experimenting with different focal lengths to change up composition and also to play with bokehs, which aren't typical in HDR photography. Experiment, experiment, experiment. That's how I've learned and grown as a photographer, but I still have a long way to go.

Tomorrow starts a full week of Christmas photos. Trees, lights, and other decorations to celebrate the Christmas season.

Yellow Train - McComb

Fri Nov 27, 2015

During my visit to McComb I spent some time walking the train tracks downtown, doing some exploring. I foudn this train, which I assume, is not in use, but looks well kept and with ver bright colors. I really thought it would make a nice picture. I took this photo with my new Sony 50mm/f1.8 lens, which is almost always reserved for portraits, not for HDR, but I really like how this turned out. I even had the aperture opened all the way up, which created some nice blur in certain areas. I'm always experimenting with photography and seeing what works and what doesn't. I usually shoot HDR shots with my Sigma 19mm/f2.9 which is better for landscapes because it is a wide angle lens, but I think I will experiment some more with the 50mm.

Railroad Museum - McComb

Fri Nov 20, 2015

I was in McComb, unfortunately, because I was attending a funeral. On Saturday I woke up at sunrise and headed downtown from the hotel to take some pictures while I was there. I was drawn to the railroad tracks next to the downtown area and walked around for a while there to get some photos. The railroad museum was not open yet but I was able to look through the window and I saw these awesome pews in a room that look straight out of an old timey photo, so I just pressed my camera up against the window and took some photos. I love how this one turned out. I really think HDR is really great for indoor photos, which I want to take more of, but it is hard sometimes because people are very finicky about allowing people to take photos inside of their business, but hopefully as word of my photography spread I can get some invites to come and take more photos like this.
