Church Door

Here is another shot from Rodney. I just couldn't take enough photos when I was there, which means I need to go back and do it again. I encourage anybody reading this to go down and visit the old ghost town. There is such an eerie but cool feeling there seeing the abandoned buildings and knowing the history of it.

Front Door

This is the front entrance to the Presbyterian church in Rodney, MS. I loved how the light crept in through the slight opening in the door, creating very eerie and dramatic lighting, especially in "light" of the fact that I was in an abandoned town which is creepy in and of itself. I also added a texture that I caught from my recent trip to Hattiesburg.

Here is another shot from Rodney, right across the street from the Presbyterian Church. Anyone know what this building used to be?

Presbyterian Church

Thu Aug 17, 2017

Rodney was such a great place to visit and very eerie. I could definitely see a horror film shot there. This is the Presbyterian Church there which is know for having a canonball embedded in the facade (just abover the upper middle window). I learned later that this is not the original cannonball that was fired at Rodney by the Union Army as that one eventually fell out and was later replaced by another one that is permanenty embedded to show where the original one hit. The church is actually being taken care of by a local society so it is not falling in like the one I posted yesterday. I love how the orange brick stood out against the green background.

Here is another photo from the neat ghost town of Rodney. This is, I believe, Mt. Zion Baptist Church (now abandoned) that sits at the end of this dirt road. I really liked how it looked from this view, as if it is sort of peeking out at me from behind a tree. I sort of discovered the hybrid monochromatic/color editing style while playing around in Lightroom and I love how it creates a black and white sky while keeping the shrubs and trees a muted green and then the pop of orange to finish it off. You will likely see more of this editing style in the near future, maybe even from Rodney.

The White Church

Fri Aug 11, 2017

For a long while now I have wanted to visit the ghost town of Rodney, Mississippi and photograph its old buildings, specifically this white church. I've read a little on the history of Rodney and how it was once a bustling river town until the Civil War and finally the changing of the mighty Mississippi finally did this town in. Some of its beauty still remains with two churches (one with a cannonball still embedded in it) standing amidst the overgrowth and being worn down by time.

I loved every second of exploring Rodney and photographing its beauty. This white church was so haunting, yet so beautiful and I wanted to reflect that in the photo, which I really hope that I did for whoever you are that is viewing this photo. More photos from Rodney to come in the future.
