Eagle at The Rock - USM

Wed May 13, 2015

This past weekend while visiting family, we went on a whirlwind tour of Hattiesburg and Red Bluff in Marion County. One of our stops was at The University of Southern Mississippi campus where my brother-in-law drove me around campus to get some photos. One of the places I wanted to get photos of was their football stadium affectionately called "The Rock". Luckily, the gate was open to the field so I just walked onto the field and one of the cool shots I got was of this eagle statue in the endzone right under the scoreboard. More shots of Southern to come.

Confederate Monument - West Point

Sat May 9, 2015

This monument is located in downtown West Point. Growing up there I always knew it was there, but when I photographed it it was the first time I ever stopped to read the engraving on it and learn a little more about it. Funny how you can not pay much attention to something you've seen your whole life.

Attala County Courthouse & Confederate Monument - Kosciusko

Wed May 6, 2015

Here is a shot from the corner of the Attala County Courthouse in the middle of the square with the confederate monument in the foreground. Kosciusko has a beautiful downtown square highlighted by the courthouse in the center of the square. Kosciusko is a very nice town that I recommend visiting.

Tire Man - Bruce

Mon Apr 20, 2015

While driving around Calhoun County I was informed by a friend about "The Tire Man" in Bruce. All I was told was that it was a statue made of old tires, so I didn't expect much out of it as far as size until I actually spotted it on the edge of town. It was really big! I'm about 6'1" tall and my head came up to about the bottom of the last tire on its right leg, just to give you a little perspective. It was a really cool thing that was unique to Bruce so I was glad to be told about it and be able to photograph it. It was rainy so you can barely see the rain coming down around his face. I'm hoping to find more things like this that are unique to the small towns in Mississippi, so if you know of any places, please comment below or send me an email.

Memorial Gardens Park

Wed Mar 25, 2015

Cemeteries can be a great place for photos, especially ones that have statues or large tombstones. I was directed to this cemetery by a friend who thought it would make for some good shots, so I ventured out during my lunchbreak last week and made sure to stop by this cemetery and I was very pleased with the shots I got. This one of them, and I will post more in the near future. This cemetery is located on Oktoc Road just outside of Starkville going towards the Noxubee Refuge. It is very well kept up and it looked like every grave had a pot of flowers on it, which I thought was nice. The clouds were great on this day with sun rays peaking through, which added some drama to this shot of Jesus (with no hands) holding his arms out.

Chapel Angel

Sat Mar 7, 2015

The chapel is a beautiful place as well as a very special place on the MSU campus and in the hearts of MSU alumni and students. It was built using the bricks that remained from the Old Manin dormitory that burned down in 1959. It's a very peaceful place you can go to escape from your studies and be alone to think or pray or even play music. Many people have been married there (I've been to a few of them myself). One of my first blog posts was from the inside of the Chapel, now I want to show you the outside in HDR from behind the nice angel statue that sits in front of it now. This will not be my last photograph of this place. Enjoy.

Little Elvis Presley

Tue Feb 17, 2015

I traveled with my wife up to Arkansas to visit some friends this weekend, and although I wasn't able to take many photos along the way while still in Mississippi, I did manage to make a stop at Elvis Presley's birthplace and snap a few photos. I really like how this photo turned out, mainly because of the detail in the statue. It looks like it's coming out of the photo. I love HDR photography!

The Photos page continues to grow, so please be patient as I add more photos everyday. Yes, EVERYday! I am making plans on places to visit when the scenery gets better along with the warmer weather in the spring, until then I will be taking photos as I'm able, wherever I happen to be. Sometimes it's hard to find good photos when everything is dead, but I will still try. I hope you are finding this site interesting as it continues to grow. I really enjoy sharing my photos and allowing people to see more of this great state.
