Tree on a Dirt Road

Wed Nov 2, 2016

I have actually posted this photo before with a bit of a different feel. I thought I would go back and redo it and make it a little cleaner. I also ended up making the tone different. I found this tree while riding down a delta highway just south of Ruleville.

1933 - Ruleville

Fri Nov 13, 2015

I really liked the look of this line of buildings in downtown Ruleville and also like how the clouds turned out in this photo as the rain clouds start to come in from the right during what was mostly a sunny day.

Cotton Gin Buildings

Tue Apr 7, 2015

This is the last photo that I have edited from Dockery Farms in the delta. These are the old cotton gin buildings on the property. I really like the Ivy growing on the side of the building. It was really quiet while I was walking around and it made it a little bit eerie. I really enjoyed shooting there and in that part of the delta in general, and I can't wait to get back and explore more of the delta and find some hidden gems there.

Dockery Service Station

Tue Mar 17, 2015

I spent a good bit of time at Dockery Farms between Cleveland and Ruleville and took lots of photos (of course) while there of this gas station, the cotton gin and an old abandoned house there. It's truly a landmark of the delta. The gas station looks as if it's been untouched for a long time and looks straight out of the era it was built. I've been testing out some matte presets in Lightroom and it worked really well with this photo. It sort of makes it look like a painting which I think is great!

I'd also like to share a site with you that I think many of you will enjoy. It's www.mississippimarkers.com and it includes photos of Mississippi Historic Markers from all 82 Mississippi Counties. This a site created by William "Brother" Rogers. I thought that this site was a great idea! It's great to be able to visit historic sites in person but through this you can read the historical markers from places that you may not have known about otherwise. So go check it out. I actually took a photo of the two historic markers that are located at Dockery Farms, one of which you can see on the photos page

Delta Tree

Fri Mar 6, 2015

As I was leaving my awesome fun delta trip last October this was the last shot that I took. I spotted this tree and road as I was heading home from Ruleville (Got some photos there too) and I decided to turn around and try to capture it. This was a shot that I wasn't initially happy with, but as soon as I tried it as a black & white and then as a sepia photo I loved it and thought it could only work that way and I hope you agree. There are tons of roads like this in the delta so you could stop every 1/4 mile and take shots of dirt roads, but there was something about the tree that really made me stop. I think I'm a little obsessed with shooting photos of trees that stand alone by themselves. They are just interesting to me, but then again I'm pretty easily entertained.
