Here's a nice early morning shot from New Albany. I hope to get back here again sometime when there are some nice clouds in the sky to really add some pop to the photos. Clear skies often work well, but there is nothing like some nice puffy clouds, especially at sunrise, to add some glow and color reflection from the sun.

I explored Myrtle a little bit and came across this old abandoned house on a tiny little road just off of what would be considered the "downtown" area. I love taking pictures of abandoned places, because they are so mysterious and beg lots of questions of "who lived there", "why is it abandoned?", etc. They are interesting places. Plus the fall colors added to the scene!

Reclining Bear

Mon Dec 5, 2016

As I was riding backroads from New Albany to Holly Springs on Thanksgiving morning I ran across the most unusual scene. Just past the Myrtle city limits as I'm minding my own business headed toward the next town, out of the corner of my eye I spotted what's in the above photo. Yes, a stuffed bear (and tiger) in an old recliner, in the middle of an open field. As you can imagine, I basically slammed on my breaks, turned around, and found a place to park. I got out and walked out into the field about 30 yards to get this shot. It was a little bit surreal to come across something like this in the middle of almost nowhere, and honestly, also a bit creepy, but this is the stuff that I absolutely love to find. You don't typically find things like this while sticking to the main roads. These gems are found off the beaten path and the fact that they can't be explained (unless someone can give me info) is part of what I love about it. It's so silly to think someone would do this until you actually run across it. Mississippi is such a mysterious place and I have a feeling, more mysteries lie ahead.

This is another photo from New Albany standing on the Tanglefoot Trail looking towards the end of the trail. Hopefully in the near future I can take a bike trip down the trail and do a little photo tour. I need to build up my biking distance first. It's a 40 mile one way trip!

Here is a shot of New Albany at sunrise that I took on my visit there late last year. This is the trail head of the Tanglefoot Trail, a bike trail that goes from New Albany to Houston, or vice versa. This was a nice area, with a little coffee shop, restaraunt and a bike store. I love the strings of lights and I'm glad I got the photo while they were still on right before the sun popped over the horizon.

Courthouse at Sunrise - New Albany

Fri Dec 4, 2015

I waited patiently for the sun to rise to this point so I could get this shot and it was super cold that day! I'm glad that I did. It's not often that I have the patience to get a shot like this, though I am working on it. The Union County Courthouse is one of the more beautifully designed courthouses that I've seen. I only wish the sun was rising behind the courhouse and not to the side of it, but you can't get everything you want am I right?

I'll keep today's post short. This is a sunrise shot from the bridge at the beginning of the Long Leaf Trace bike trail in New Albany.

Main Street Sunrise - New Albany

Took this shot while standing on the Long Leaf Trace bridge at the trace's trailhead right smack dab in the middle of downtown New Albany. This was such a peaceful scene, and honestly, aside from this time of day just being such a beautiful time to get shots, it's my favorite time of day to photograph because of how quiet and peaceful it usually is. The only drawback was that it was SO COLD on this morning and my hands were numb after a long while of shooting. New Albany has a beautiful downtown.

Once again I want to remind you that you can now purchase my photos through smugmug.com by simply clicking on the above photo and then choosing the "Buy" option underneath it on Smug Mug. While there you can search through tags to find photos from the different counties that I've been able to photograph so far.

Here is another photo from New Albany during my morning trip there this past weekend. This is probably one of the more beautifully designed courthouses in the state, at least that I've seen. The cool part about this photo is that while I was there, there was vintage car show going on and people were getting there cars set up and I thought it was really neat that these three were parked out front, giving the photo a really vintage feel. Almost like I went back in time and photographed the courthouse in the 60's.
