Sunset on the Tombigbee - Columbus

Tue Aug 11, 2015

I got the fun opportunity to get out on the river last Thursday with some friends (It's good to have friends with a boat). I tried my hand at water skiing, but wasn't very successful. I think I was much more successful at capturing the sunset, but I had lots of fun.

Pier - Waveland

Mon Jun 29, 2015

My first stop on my tour of the gulf coast was Waveland. There are countless piers up and down the coast so I don't really remember exactly where this one was other than to say it's in Waveland. I had fun on the coast and got some good photos. I was feeling especially creative with this photo so I did a lot playing around with different things and ended up with this black and white version with a little color splashed in. I obviously don't do this with every photo but sometimes I do like to play around with no specific idea in mind. I just mess with things until I see something I like and it's often hard to explain to someone why I treat a photo a specific way. Sometimes I see it in my head and I try to translate it on to the photo, and other times I have no idea what I want to see until I actually see it. This would be my suggestion to people who don't think they are creative, because playing around is part of the creative process. I honestly don't think that you always have to have a specific plan when it comes to creating art. I think a lot of it is spontaneity and finding things by accident, or maybe that's just how I work best. So I say go and play and find your creativity.

Bluff Lake - Noxubee Wildlife Refuge

Sat Jun 27, 2015

The Noxubee Refuge is such a peaceful and serene place to get away yet not be far from town. This part of Bluff Lake can be seen after walking about 1/4 mile on a boardwalk through the woods. It was a beautiful day when I took this and I honestly could've stayed there all day long and being late fall the colors were outstanding. Not hard to capture a good image on days like this. Plus this photo reminds me that there is an end to the sweltering humidity of a Mississippi summer.

Vintage Gazeebo - Lake Tiak-O'Khata

Sat Jun 20, 2015

I posted this photo of the same gazeebo a while back but I took a lot of photos of it. Here is one from a different angle but with a vintage flare similar to the lawn chair photo I posted the other day. Lake Tiak-O'Khata is a great place to visit while you're in Louisville.

Lawn Chairs at Lake Tiak-O'Khata - Louisville

Mon Jun 15, 2015

Enjoyed my time in Louisville, especially at Lake Tiak-O'Khata. The sun was super bright in this photo and the background is a little blown out, but I still like this image and thus why I am posting it. :)

On Strike - Gulfport

Sat Jun 13, 2015

This boat dock is located right next to the lighthouse in Gulfport. Unfortunately, the access is restricted for this dock so the only pictures I could get were of the boats closest to the lighthouse area, but I really like this shot and would like to get some sunset shots in this area at some poin the future.

Pascagoula River - George County

Thu Jun 11, 2015

I followed a boat ramp road off of hwy 26 to this spot on the Pascagoula River. It was a few miles of dirt road, swamp and gigantic mosquitoes, but being the brave photographer I am, I fought through the blood sucking monsters all for the shot. Ok, that was a little dramatic, but the mosqitoes were huge and kept trying to get into our car so I made sure to not linger too long by the river.

Stream at Red Bluff

Wed May 20, 2015

While at Red Bluff we hiked down one of the trails that lead to some railroad tracks and a stream that ran under the tracks. I think this stream feeds into the Pearl River which is nearby. Although this isn't much of a waterfall I thought I would try to get a moving water photo and this was the result. It was a perfect day to visit Red Bluff and we had a ton of fun hiking there.

Reservoir Tree

Tue May 5, 2015

My first stop near Jackson was to the Ross Barnett Reservoir. I pulled off into a big parking lot near a small pier off of Spillway Rd. on the Rankin County side and spotted this tree next to the water. I love lonely trees! They make for great photos and with the Reservoir as the backdrop, it made it that much better. It was really cloudy and rainy the whole time I was there, but the cloudy skies added to the drama of many of the shots that I took. You just have to work with what you got sometimes.

Lake Lowndes

Wed Mar 18, 2015

This is a photo of Lake Lowndes in Columbus. This is pretty much just a straight forward HDR shot with some nice colors in the trees and blues in the sky and water reflections. Not a lot of detail to go into about this one. I encourage you to visit Lake Lowndes if you're in the Columbus area and check out that beautiful area.
