Miller Hall

Wed Sep 27, 2017

This is Miller Hall from the now closed Wood Jr. College in Mathiston, an historic college that still has some old buildings still standing as well as a very cool outdoor covered chapel that is still being used today.

Grass Bank

This is a long exposure shot that I took at Legion Lake in Eupora during a great sunset. I probably spent about an hour shooting photos before, during, and after sunset. Water adds so much value to a sunset shot because of the reflections you get and the extra color that those reflections give off. I love how this bright green of the grass interacts with the rest of the colors that this sunset gave me. Truly the best time of the day. Sunrise is also beautiful but it is more of a challenge to wake up and catch it!

Mantee

Wed Jun 14, 2017

I came across the little community of Mantee and I saw this cool little white abandoned house with the Mantee water tower in the background, so I had to get out in the middle of the street to get the water tower in the shot (watching for traffice of course). Add to that, the clouds were great on this day and they add so much to a shot as opposed to an empty perfectly flat blue sky.

Dead End

Sat May 27, 2017

I love to walk around downtown areas and explore both the often seen places and the lesser known places, like this little back alley. I think the slightly dirty, a little bit unkempt, areas that aren't intended to be often seen, often have a lot of character with multiple textures and colors going on alongside less than perfect lines and angles. I think it makes for a good photo.

Don't worry, I didn't trespass onto the land or in the building, I simply took a photo from the road. The sunset was so soft and painted looking with the whispy clouds bouncing colors everywhere. Such a contrast between the sky and the old shed but I love finding scenes like this at such a beautiful time of day.

Enjoy another photo from White's Creek Lake in Eupora. This is another angle of the family sitting by the lake at sunset. I posted this photo of it a couple of weeks back.

Quiet Lake

Thu Apr 27, 2017

This is a shot from Legion Lake in Walthall. It was very serene and quiet when we were there an there were no other people around, save for one fishing boat way off in the distance (not pictured here). There was a nice soft sunset behind us that created a great smooth gradient of warm to cool colors. Always try to photograph not only the sunset but what is on the other side of the sky from the sunset, because you never know what you might see.

Art Park Alley

Wed Apr 26, 2017

No, I haven't moved to Eupora, but I have gotten some great photos from there in the past year. This is Eupora's art park which sits in an alleyway in the bones of a building that apparently used to be there. I took this photo at sunrise.

Orange Waters

Tue Apr 25, 2017

Some of the most beautiful sunset colors happen after the sun actually sets and some darkness sets in, leaving a nice bright glow on the horizon with beautiful vivid colors. So when you are shooting a sunset, keep taking photos for a little while after the sun drops below the horizon and you'll be pleasantly surprised and the kind of photos you can capture. Oh and don't forget to look behind you for different and just as beautiful colors.
