Old Train Trussel

Sat Feb 21, 2015

It's not often that I'm able to get up at sunrise to take photographs, but I am trying to do it more often. It's much better than trying to get sunset shots, one because of the sheer beauty of a sunrise (there's just something special about it), and also because of the quiet of it. There just aren't that many people moving around at sunrise. This photo was from on of those mornings (Saturday nonetheless) that I was able to get up and about and capture a sunrise. This was taken at Waverly Park near the boat ramp there. I hiked through the woods just a bit to get to the tracks. Unfortunately there is a fence not allowing me to actually get on to the trussel, so I just stuck my camera lens through the fence and shot three exposures really quickly and went on my way.

Commerce Street in West Point

Thu Feb 19, 2015

I'm excited to finally reveal one of the many photos of my hometown, West Point, MS. This is Commerce St. downtown and I took this photo standing in front of the City Hall building. West Point has a nice downtown area and is a great place for a photo walk. I remember scurrying around quickly as the sun was setting trying to get in as many photos as possible. You can check out a few more on the Photos page under Clay.

Yesterday I posted a photo of an old building in downtown Ackerman. After also posting it to Facebook, I found out from others that it used to be a hotel among other things throughout its history. It was called the Cochran Hotel and was built in 1908. That is part of the reason why I created Mississippi in HDR, not only to showcase great photography, but for others to see the beauty and discover more about the history of this state. More to come!
