Main Street Medical

Here is a shot from Louisville that I took a couple of years ago. I really like photographing the small town downtown buildings because people seem to respond well to seeing their hometown in photos, especially buildings that they are familiar with that often have a lot of history. So let's hear more about this area of Louisville. I've actually been in Frazier's shoe repair and if you like the smell of leather (which I do) it is a great place to check out.

Steeple

Tue May 16, 2017

This is the First Baptist Church in downtown Louisville and it has a really big steeple that was actually hard to capture without getting really far away from the church, so I pretty much set my camera on the ground and pointed it up at the church to get this shot.

Strand

Wed Mar 1, 2017

This is the Strand theatre in downtown Louisville. It appears to still be in use, though I took this photo two years ago. I though this would be fitting in monochrome since it is an old theatre. Also, there is a swastika on the building but I'm pretty sure at the time it was built, that symbol had nothing to do with Nazis or anti-semitism.

Black & White Barn

Sun Oct 30, 2016

I posted another photo of this barn on Thursday. I actually couldn't decide which one I liked best between the color version and the black and white, so I just decided to post them both on separate days. The more I look at this, the more I favor it. What do you think? Which one is your favorite?

Roadside Barn

Thu Oct 27, 2016

I discovered this old barn on the side of Highway 25 between Louisville and Starkville. I was heading to Starkville and noticed this barn against some great clouds. Shooting in the mid afternoon is not always ideal, but when you have nice puffy clouds like this it usually makes for a good shot. And who doesn't love photographs of barns?

Green Field

Sat Aug 6, 2016

I saw this spot on my way home from Louisville one day. When I first edited it, I wasn't a big fan of it. However, when I went back again and re-edited it, I cropped the photo and played with the color a bit and I started to like it a lot better. I finished it off by adding some texture and a little bit of dust & scratches to it to give a vintage feel and also added a bit of a green tint to top it off. It's great when you can get some nice puffy, white clouds during an afternoon photo shoot.

Broken Tree

Tue Jul 12, 2016

Here is another shot, post-tornado, from Louisville, in an area hit pretty hard by the storm. This tree is next to a now empty lot after the tornado destroyed the home that once sat there. It's so eerie standing in a place so barren, yet seeing such a beautiful sunset happening around it.

Lake Shore

Sun Jun 26, 2016

Here is another photo from Louisville at Lake Tiak O'Khata. This is a place you should definitely check out if you are in the area. I took this near sunset, actually about 10 minutes before I took yesterday's photo. I plan to go back this summer to the lake and get some more photos with a bit more life in the trees, but I like the peacfulness of this photo, which reflects how it felt when I was actually standing there.

Aftermath

Sat Jun 25, 2016

This is a poto I took in Louisville a few months after the massive tornado that went through there last year and did a lot of destruction. This areas was right in the path of the tornado and destroyed some houses. This is the foundation of one of those houses in front of a fallen tree and surrounded by debris after some cleanup had been done (you can see pieces of red brick laying on the ground). However, there is such beauty in the sunset that was happening as I took this photo and it shows such a contrast between bad and good. I love to capture scenes like this during a sunset because it creates something beautiful out of something sad and I think it creates a sort of hope when looking at it.
